About Us Page                                                                                    Our History

In 1985 Pope John Paul II created a personal prelature to provide a pathway for thousands of married Roman Catholic priests to return as clergy and continue to serve in Roman Catholic parishes. The Order created within that prelature to establish jurisdiction was of Syro-Chaldean origin and was call the Catholic Apostolic Church / Eastern Rite / International Ordinariate. Mar +John Dunnigan was a bishop of the Catholic Apostolic Church / Eastern Rite / International Ordinariate.

In 2003, the Federation of Jesus Abbeys (FJA) was created by Mar + John Dunnigan to continue the mission. At that time we had to work with total confidentiality.

Out of FJA came the Order of Franciscans Ecumenical (OFE) in 2013 to create a home for married Roman Catholic priests. Its leadership was placed under Abbot Father Michael Cuozzo, OFE who is now its Abbot General. We went public in 2013. Though still relatively new, it is growing and flourishing and now has members in seven countries.

“Let the Church always be a place of mercy and hope, where everyone is welcomed, loved and forgiven.” (Pope Francis)
