PRESS RELEASE

July 31, 2021

The Office of Bishop is one that is most sacred. It comes with a great deal of responsibility, prayer, and service to the people of God.

Bishop-Elect Michael Cuozzo meets all the biblical requirements, i.e., “This saying is trustworthy: – whoever aspires to the office of bishop desires a noble task. Therefore, a bishop must be irreproachable, married only once, temperate, self-controlled, decent, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not aggressive, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, keeping his children under control with perfect dignity; for if a man does not know how to manage his own household, how can he take care of the church of God? He should not be a recent convert, so that he may not become conceited and thus incur the devil’s punishment. He must also have a good reputation among outsiders, so that he may not fall into disgrace, the devil’s trap.” (1 Timothy 3:1-7)

He is suitability of a candidate for the episcopacy. His faith is solid, good morals, piety, zeal for souls, wisdom, prudence, human virtues, and in possession of a doctorate in theology and philosophy and endowed with other qualities which make him suitable to fulfill the office in question. My Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Today’s serious health concerns have brought a level of uncertainty that many of us thought we would never see in our lifetime; probably none of us thought we would see a single virus become a global pandemic.

There circumstances create some level of worry for each of us, but it is important for all of us to remember that we are indeed in this together and we need to support each other and all those around us in any way we can.

We are people of faith, and let’s all rise to the occasion by focusing on what we can and should be doing, and not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by worry, unknowns, limited resources, etc. Let’s put our energy into looking out for one another, easing the fears of children, checking on the well-being of the elderly and isolated, sharing helpful ideas, and maintaining social ties with others through various electronic means.

Let’s not allow physical separation to translate into social and emotional isolation. Instead, let’s commit ourselves to the recommended health guidelines and put our best efforts into reaching out to others to support their physical, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being. Doing so will help us to look back on this time as one in which we used a dark period as an opportunity to bring light into the lives of others.

Catholic Order of Franciscans Ecumenical
Established: September 8, 2018

The Order of Franciscans Ecumenical is pleased to announce that we have established the Catholic Order of Franciscans Ecumenical.

On the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saturday, September 8, 2018, the Abbot General of the Order of Franciscans Ecumenical established the Catholic Order of Franciscans Ecumenical, for Catholic autocephalous (ecclesiastical independent self-governing) bishops and priests (men and women) who are of the “One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church” and were not ordained by a Roman Catholic bishop.

Present members and those who join COFE are called to assist the Order to accomplish its goals, mission, charism, Apostolic works, and to live out the OFE Franciscan “Rule of Life.”

At the Vatican on 16 June 2000, Pope John Paul II ratified and ordered the publication of “Dominus Iesus (English: The Lord Jesus). This Declaration of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith was signed and published by Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) in August of the same year. In this Declaration, the Roman Catholic Church recognizes the validity of Orders and Sacraments of autocephalous or Old Catholic denominations:

“The Churches which, while not existing in perfect communion with the Roman Catholic Church, remain united to her by means of the closest bonds, that is, by Apostolic Succession and a valid Eucharist, are true particular Churches. Therefore, these separated Churches and communities as such have by no means been deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation. For the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic Church.” (IV. Unicity and Unity of the Church, 17)

“Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. ” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

NOTE: The Catholic Order Franciscans Ecumenical was disbanded on March 22, 2022.
